Elderly husband and wife living in ex-farmhouse in the beautiful Blackmore Vale, Dorset, both in their late 80s and quite frail, need a couple to help with personal care and to run their household. One individual has early signs of dementia and needs daily personal care.
Duties for the couple – which (except as indicated) can be split as practicable – include:
1. Daily personal care for one, including continence care, supervision of medication and getting up and putting to bed (female role)
2. Preparing lunch and sandwich supper, serving and clearing; keeping the kitchen tidy
3. Light housework
4. Washing and ironing, including bedlinen
5. Bringing in logs
6. Shopping for provisions and running errands
7. Driving the clients to local appointments
8. Sometimes walking the (small) dog
9. Other reasonable tasks of the same nature, as they arise.
Accommodation is a self-contained studio apartment accessed by stairs in an outbuilding very close to the main house, suitable for a couple. Rent free. All overheads – utilities, Wi-Fi etc – will be provided. Remuneration accordingly.
The car is a small four seat electric (range over 200 miles) Honda for which all running costs will be paid. Reasonable personal use will be permitted.
The role is for four weeks on and one week off. Duties will start at 8am and usually finish at 7pm, although they are unlikely to fill the whole day. There may occasionally be some evening work.
The position is for a couple living and working together.
Requirements are:
• Relevant prior experience, including recent similar personal care experience
• Valid clean driving licence
• Kind, responsible, adaptable and reliable
• Like the countryside, love dogs.
Trial period: There will be a three-month trial period.
References will be expected and taken up.
