Head Gardener with Handyperson and Groundsperson experience on a beautiful private country estate in East Sussex. Live in or out

A unique opportunity for a couple who are both gardeners to maintain and develop the classic garden and newly restored walled garden at the principal family house, together with the care and maintenance of the gardens and hedges of 10 estate cottages and a rural office complex, with total lawn areas extending to approx. 10 hectares.

The ideal couple will hold horticultural qualifications, have experience and extensive knowledge in all areas of gardening including growing fruit and vegetables and be mechanically skilled. You will be fit and energetic, self-sufficient and work well as a team. 

You will be responsible for maintaining the equipment and machinery and ensuring it is serviced.

Duties

• Gardening, care of cut flower garden and kitchen garden

• Grounds maintenance including repairs (eg. fencing, watering, flowerbeds, pruning, etc.)
• Lawn mowing
• Strimming/hedge trimming
• Leaf blowing and sweeping/cleaning out outbuildings
• Drive clearance
• Care and maintenance of tools and garden machinery

• Swimming pool maintenance 
• Ensuring all drains and gutters are free from debris

• Garden furniture maintenance and moving (into and out of storage)
• Car cleaning and maintenance
• Occasional driving
• Light household maintenance and DIY (eg. light bulb, loose tap fixing, paint touch up, etc.) 

• Routine chainsaw work
• Interior and exterior maintenance and DIY

A driving licence will be essential due to the location

Accommodation: Estate Cottage

Working Hours: Full time as required.

Salary: By negotiation
