Residential Carer and Companion required for an 84 year-old lady, living on her own with a small Labrador in an apartment in a prestigious part of Central Edinburgh.

Our client has a type of dementia (which is most likely of the Alzheimer’s type). This mostly affects memory and recall, leading to confusion.

She is a very social lady; she enjoys having a wide circle of friends. Ideally, the Carer will assist to maintain and further develop her network of friends.

Our client enjoys walking her dog 3-4 times a day. She enjoys this and this keeps her happy.

The post would suit someone with strong previous experience of working with dementia and particularly Alzheimer’s. The ideal candidate is gentle, patient, discreet and persuasive.

Cooking: Encourage to eat regular meals, helping her in the kitchen with the preparation and cooking of meals. The Carer is expected to eat with the client when she is at home.

Driving: The Carer will need to drive our client to her medical, hair or other appointments and to social engagements – all in Edinburgh. The Carer will be insured to drive the client’s Mercedes for this purpose.

Discreetly assist with personal care.

A cleaner attends the property three times a week.

The working week is over five days, including weekends. Days off will typically be Tuesday and Friday.

This is a long-term post and a very competitive salary is on offer. 

A valid Enhanced DBS, clean driving licence and recent checkable references are required. (AGY)
