A private household situated in a village near Newbury is seeking an experienced and reliable live-in full-time housekeeper (or housekeeper/gardener couple) to facilitate the smooth running of a family home. The successful candidate(s) will be able to work independently, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and maintain high standards at all times.
Applicants should be comfortable working in a rural location. A full, clean driving licence is essential. Cooking skills are required, as the successful candidate will be required to prepare meals when the family are in residence.
Accommodation is provided with the role by way of a two-bedroom semi-detached cottage on site.
THE ROLE:
The role will cover a wide range of work to include:
• Cleaning and tidying
• Cooking when the family are in residence
• Shopping for supplies
• Collection of family members and guests from the local train station
• Washing and ironing of clothes, towels and bedding
• Dusting and polishing surfaces, sensors and silverware
• Interior window cleaning
• Cleaning of floors, rugs and carpets (including beating of rugs and furnishings)
• Organise and maintain household cleaning supplies (and ensure household areas are stocked)
• Organisation and regular checking of clothing and wardrobes
• Organisation and cleaning of kitchen, pantry and household appliances
• Organising contractors and suppliers to support the ongoing maintenance of the property (e.g., scheduling and overseeing pest control, appliance maintenance, alarm servicing, gardening etc.)
• Watering of indoor plants and flowers
• Household bin management
• An awareness of maintenance issues that may arise, reporting them as appropriate
SKILLS REQUIRED FOR THE ROLE:
• Effective communication skills essential
• Attention to detail important
• Flexibility in working hours (weekends will be the busiest time at the house)
• Initiative and ability to self-motivate
• Reliability and good time keeping
• Full, clean driving licence is essential
