Services Welfare Officer (WRVS)

Based at one of the military bases within the UK (relocating to a new military location every two years)

£22,078.92 per annum Plus benefits including 36 days holiday plus statutory bank holidays

Part of the Royal Voluntary Service, WRVS Services Welfare is an innovative charity providing vital support to the Armed Forces. We are now looking for a number of Services Welfare Officers to join our WRVS Services Welfare team.

Services Welfare Officers provide welfare support to both newly recruited service personnel and unaccompanied service personnel at military bases within the UK and overseas.

We are looking for applicants with broad experience in working with young adults and service personnel in a welfare setting, which could include youth and community work, social work, education or healthcare.

You will provide an independent, confidential and sensitive welfare service, supporting service personnel on a one-to-one basis, helping them find solutions to personal and practical issues, or using your judgement to signpost them to other support agencies where appropriate. In addition, you will manage a WRVS facility.

Living in mess accommodation, you will be based in the UK with the opportunity to be considered to work abroad at a later stage.

If you are interested in this position, you will need:

- Experience of working with young or vulnerable adults

- Previous experience of effective networking with other agencies

- To demonstrate a good track record of working effectively within a team

- To be prepared to live in the one person accommodation provided

- Basic IT skills

- A full driving licence

- A valid passport

You will also need:

- To demonstrate flexibility to relocate at short notice, be self-motivated and approachable

- To demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills

- To possess time-management, planning and prioritisation abilities

A relevant qualification in an area such as youth work, social work, teaching or similar, would be beneficial to your application.

This is a full-time role, working 36 hours per week over 6 days. The successful candidate must be resilient and  have the flexibility to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays and react to emergency situations which may involve working outside the normal shift pattern.

Embracing the military culture is critical whilst upholding the WRVS corporate identity, values and sense of independence.

These posts are subject to an enhanced DBS check and further security checks via the Defence Vetting Agency.

The closing date for the position is the 13th August 2021, with interviews taking place in London on w/c 6th September 2021.

Due to the high volume of applications anticipated, we are unable to provide individual feedback to unsuccessful applicants.

Here at Royal Voluntary Service, we're committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We want to be a charity that's representative of the communities we serve, which is why we strive for diversity of age, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, ethnicity and perspective.
