Housekeeper & Handyperson

An experienced proactive couple is required by a family living in rural Northamptonshire.   The family spend their time between this primary residence, London and Europe and have four grown up children who return home at weekends.

The Housekeeper will primarily be responsible for the day to day care of the large 10 bedroom country house.  Duties include general cleaning, changing beds, laundry, ironing, care of antiques.  There will also be occasional help with entertaining.  Cooking skills are desirable but not essential. Occasional driving to run errands.  Two mornings a week cleaning for elderly parents on the drive.

The Handyperson’s principal roles include driving to station/airport and general collections.  Gardening and grounds maintenance, including pool and court.  A good understanding and experience of caring for plants, trees and hedges is essential plus general maintenance skills for circa 40 acres of which 11 acres is woodland.  Knowledge of garden machinery, strimmers, hedge cutters, chain saw, mowers and enthusiasm to clean cars is highly desirable.

There will be some weekend work required and also house sitting for circa 12 weeks per year.  Loving dogs is essential as you will assist with walking and feeding the family’s 2 Labradors and 1 elderly cat, looking after them when the family are away.  

Accommodation is a two-bedroom cottage (with a separate study) with its own garden.  All utilities are paid for including fast broadband.  A VW Golf staff car is provided with all expenses paid including personal fuel use (within fair limits).

Non smokers, no dependants.   Both to hold a valid driving licence and able to commit long term.  Good interpersonal skills, proactive, polite and friendly.   Pension contributions paid into a NEST or other officially recognised pension fund.  20 days annual leave, plus statutory holidays
