A prestigious private country estate near Reading is seeking an experienced and passionate Yard Manager to oversee the daily operations of its high-end livery yard.
This role is ideal for someone who combines excellent equestrian knowledge with strong leadership and organisational skills. The successful candidate will ensure the smooth running of the yard, delivering exceptional care for both horses and clients while maintaining the estate’s reputation for excellence.
The equestrian centre is nestled within a 1,750-acre private estate in Berkshire, offering a blend of private pasture and arable land surrounding a Grade One listed manor house. Established in 2010, the centre features 42 premium stables, Olympic sized indoor and outdoor arenas, horse walker, horse saunas and direct access to extensive off-road hacking trails, including connections to Bramshill Forest.
Responsibilities:
● Oversee the daily management of the livery yard, ensuring the highest standards of horse care and stable management.
● Lead and supervise a team of dedicated grooms, providing training and support as needed and oversee the recruitment of new equestrian staff when required.
● Ensure the yard runs efficiently, managing staff rotas, horse care schedules, and general yard upkeep.
● Act as the primary point of contact for livery clients, delivering a personalised and professional service tailored to individual needs and handling any complaints.
● Maintain and enforce safety protocols across the yard.
● Oversee the use and maintenance of equestrian facilities, ensuring they remain in top condition.
● Support the estate’s wider equestrian activities, which may include events, competitions, and hacking routes.
● Maintain accurate records, liaising with estate management as required.
● Market and recruit new livery clients with the support of the Estate Manager and Estate Office.
Requirements:
● Full UK driving licence.
● Proven experience in managing a professional livery yard or similar facility.
● Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and oversee staff.
● Extensive knowledge of horse care, welfare, and stable management.
● Excellent communication skills and a client-focused approach.
● Highly organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
● First Aid certification and safeguarding knowledge are desirable.
● A flexible and hands-on approach to work, including occasional weekend and evening duties.
